Please recommend a VPN in the comments.

I'm just curious, what VPNs do you all use and what cool features can be built into them?

On average, I've deployed Wireguard nodes and just tunneled traffic through them.

I don't use a VPN. It's unreliable and unnecessary in the Russian Federation in '24.

    Basically, tl;dr on bypasses:

Wireguard - easy, lightweight, fast, built into the kernel, doesn't do anything special, just a tunnel, can be detected during the handshake, so it's good to modify this step and it should be great. After that, it's just TLS. Shadowsocks (and its mods like 2022) - just a data stream unlike anything else, where it's unclear what's happening. X-Ray & CO (not to be confused with lada xray) - frameworks that mimic a bunch of protocols, they can even do HTTP/QUIC/WebSocket.

There are providers that don't block or partially block forbidden resources: https://ntc.party/t/list-of-vpsdedicated-server-network-censorship-in-russia/4867

At first, I thought it was a porn actress and immediately started searching VK.com for the video))

Yes, also a good breakdown of all modern mimicry methods.

Okay, alright, and what's your take on things like NordVPN and Windscribe? If we set aside the fact that they don't work in Russia

  • @ Ivan ITK 🚫 · # 1672

Like any public VPN, Proton is better.

  • @ [ $davids.sh ] · # 1673

Like, unreliable, they monitor traffic, they can complain to law enforcement?

  • @ [ $davids.sh ] · # 1674

Simply, what should I do then if I want multi-country? For example, I need to perform some operations from Armenia, and finding a provider there, getting a server, and installing WireGuard takes 15 minutes...

  • @ Leijona · # 1675

Windscribe is blocked quite often. It can not work for weeks.

There have been so many VPN services in my life, like shit, and they all swore they didn't collect logs, but after a hack, it turned out they did collect them after all) and considering modern DPI and various operator-level traffic analysis methods

I can recommend Xeovo. 2 euros per month when paying for a year.

The referral program from zatelekom (Mikhail Klimarev, foreign agent) used to give 10% on the first payment, not sure if it's still active.

    Oh, by the way.

I can give you the contacts of a team lead from VPN generator – this is a project of the Internet Protection Society (OZI). These are people who managed to get Russia Today's broadcasts blocked on European satellites. Very undesirable people)

The pros are: no more than 250 users per IP – unlikely anyone will block it. The cons are: one location, no choice. Usually, it's the Netherlands or something similar. There are many protocols, and they monitor for blocks. For bypassing geo-blocking in Russia – it's awesome.
