In short:
Moreover, there's a built-in P2P for rubles that works!
It's just that lately many people have had problems with ruble P2P, and here everything is out of the box.
And you can also send crypto to contacts from TG, even if they don't have a wallet (they don't even need to authorize, just open the app).
In short, it's awesome, Telegram has once again proven that it's the best service ever ❤️❤️❤️

But, as I understand it now, this is a custodial wallet (you don't own the keys). To make it non-custodial, you need to connect Ton Space in the app settings.

The downsides include USDT deposits on the TRC20 network potentially taking... over 10 hours. This is due to manual transaction verification, a complaint users have had for months with no change.
Not everyone is lucky with verification; after passing it, your account might simply be blocked without explanation, and support will ignore you for a year. My friend's situation was resolved by contacting their CEO directly.
During peak user times, the wallet completely disconnects and is completely unsuitable for storage. Alternatives include @CryptoBot, @xrocket 🤷♂️🤷♂️🤷♂️

Is this the same cold wallet that requires you to provide your date of birth, full name, and other details? 🚬

For custodial, yes, to use P2P, but it's standard KYC like everywhere else.
For Ton Space (non-custodial wallet), maybe not.
I'm proceeding from the assumption that (1) you shouldn't make large transactions with such tools, and (2) if they want to, they'll track you down and catch you in 90% of cases (unless you're extremely paranoid, but on average, people won't go to those lengths).
I'll phrase it like this: if you want to buy crypto for a small amount (e.g., up to 50k rubles) and then send it to someone who has neither a wallet nor anything else, then this is a perfectly viable tool*.
